Understanding the Treatment

What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation or colonics, is a safe and gentle method of cleansing the large intestine using warm, filtered water. The treatment helps remove accumulated waste, toxins, and gas from the colon, supporting your body's natural detoxification processes.

At Beyond Living Health in Southport on the Gold Coast, we use the LIBBE (Lower Intestinal Bottom Bowel Evacuation) system, which is both TGA registered in Australia and FDA cleared in the United States. This is the gold standard in colon hydrotherapy equipment worldwide.

How Does It Work?

The LIBBE is an open-system, gravity-fed device. Unlike closed systems that use pressurised water, the open system allows filtered, temperature-controlled water to flow gently into the colon through a small, disposable rectal nozzle. Waste material is softened and released naturally through gravity, flowing away through the system's built-in drainage.

You remain in a private room throughout your entire session. Your therapist is available whenever you need them, but the open system means you have complete privacy and comfort. Many clients describe the experience as relaxing and find it much less daunting than they expected.

Why the LIBBE System?

We chose the LIBBE because it offers the safest, most comfortable experience available. Key advantages include:

Why Our Clients Love It

Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy

🌱

Removes built-up waste and promotes regular, comfortable bowel movements. Many clients notice improvements from their very first session.

One of the most common and immediate benefits. Trapped gas and waste are gently released, reducing that uncomfortable bloated feeling.

🧠

Mental Clarity

The gut-brain connection is well documented. Clients frequently report improved focus, reduced brain fog, and better mood after treatment.

🏋

Weight Management

While not a weight loss treatment, removing accumulated waste and improving nutrient absorption can support your broader health goals.

Common Questions

Colon Hydrotherapy FAQ

Is colon hydrotherapy safe?
Yes. When performed by I-ACT certified therapists using TGA-registered equipment like the LIBBE system, colon hydrotherapy is a safe and gentle procedure. The open system uses gravity-fed filtered water with no artificial pressure.
Is it painful?
Most clients find the procedure comfortable and relaxing. Some may experience mild cramping similar to the feeling before a normal bowel movement, but this typically passes quickly. Many people say it was much easier than they expected.
How should I prepare for my session?
Avoid eating a heavy meal 2 hours before your appointment. Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your session. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand. Light, easily digestible foods are best on the day of your treatment.
How many sessions do I need?
This varies by individual. Many clients notice benefits after their first session. For ongoing wellness, a series of 3 to 6 sessions is commonly recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every 4 to 8 weeks. Your therapist will recommend a plan tailored to your needs.
Who should not have colon hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is not recommended for pregnant women, people with active inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or ulcerative colitis flare-ups), recent bowel surgery, or certain other conditions. Your therapist will review your health history during the initial consultation.
